Cricketer Chetan Chauhan Passes Away After A Brave Battle Against Coronavirus; He Was 73

Indian former cricketer Chetan Chauhan who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the last month has breathed his last at the age of 73. The former cricket player was reportedly died after multiple organ failure, as per reports in PTI. He was undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi PGI Hospital located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 12, 2020. He was also put on a life support system before he breathed his last, as he was reported to have developed some kidney failure issues as well.
On Saturday, a senior DDCA official had shared an update on the former Indian cricketer’s health and had told PTI, “Early morning today, Chetan ji had a kidney failure and subsequently, had multi-organ failure. He is currently on life support. We are all praying that he wins this battle.” Chetan Chauhan was also a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government. The late cricketer represented the country in 40 test cricket matches and was also one of the opening partners with legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar during several matches.
Chetan Chauhan had also worked in Delhi and Districts Cricket Association at various designations from chief selector to the secretary to vice president to president of DDCA. Besides these designations, he was also the Indian cricket tour manager during their Australia tour.
He also played 40 Test matches and 7 ODIs in which he scored 2084 runs and 153 runs respectively. Also during his terms in the Indian cricket team, he was the first batsman to score 2000 runs in Test matches but without scoring a century. He also played in Ranji tournaments from Maharashtra and Delhi.
